Organic Growers School is excited to be collaborating with The 2017 Home, Garden and Green Living Show (HGGLS)! The HGGLS has so many exciting vendors, products, DIY workshops, and seminars that will be of special interest to the OGS family. Mark your calendars for March 17-19 and plan to be at the US Cellular Center in downtown Asheville!

These are the workshops hosted by Organic Growers School (OGS)! Workshops, seminars, and events are COMPLETELY FREE, (unless otherwise noted) with the price of admission.

Root Cellaring by Rod Bowling
Friday March 17, 4-5 PM

Root cellaring was a crucial part of homesteading before refrigerators and year-round groceries. Using the earth’s naturally stable temperatures to store perishable items, it’s simple, low-tech, energy saving, and self-reliant. An overview of styles, building materials, DIY techniques, and usage.

Rod is a homesteader in Madison County where he and his wife Cindy Trisler cultivate 2 acres of gardens, mushrooms, berries and fruit trees. Between them, they provide workshops on shiitake mushroom production, fermentation, small flock poultry management, general homesteading, pottery & more.

Wreath Making by Nicole Delcogliano
Friday March 17, 4-5 PM

Come and learn the basics of making a dried flower wreath with locally grown organic flowers. Farmer and wreath designer, Nicole DelCogliano, will discuss what flowers to grow to dry, how to dry flowers and materials needed to make a beautiful everlasting wreath for home or gifts! $5 material fee.

Nicole DelCogliano is the OGS Farmer Programs Coordinator. She and her husband Gaelan began their farm Green Toe Ground, a diversified organic farm in Celo, NC over 15 years ago. They’ve grown the farm over the years, and now manage 16 acres of diversified organic and biodynamic produce and livestock, train farm apprentices each year, and raise their two girls. Nicole has a Masters in Sustainability from the Center for Appalachian Studies in Boone, NC.

Intro to Homestead Dreams by Brandon Greenstein
Friday March 17, 5:30-6:30 PM

Brandon is the Home-Grower Programs Director for OGS, developing new initiatives to provide services to home-growers. His background is in Renewable Systems, Earth Works, Energy, Water, Homesteading, and Permaculture. He offers consulting, design, and technical services for the creation of low impact and energy conserving systems through his company, Integrated Ecological Solutions.
