Our fall classes will ensure continued bounty and new inspiration in your garden as the year progresses. Our instructors will teach you about fall garden planning and cover cropping, saving your seeds, and integrating mushrooms into your garden.

Planning Your Fall Garden
Thinking ahead never does anyone harm! Diana McCall will be sharing some frameworks to think about fall gardening, including timelines, cover cropping, and favorite fall crops. Diana taught the OGS Gardening Series for many years and also manages the Dr. John Wilson Community Garden, where the workshop will take place.

Angie Lavezzo
Seed Saving
Seed saving is a magnificent skill and one that can help reduce costs, increase self-sufficiency, support genetic diversity, and improve plant adaptation to your area. Angie Lavezzo has been a backyard and professional seed saver for years. In this workshop, she will cover the importance of seed-saving, understanding seed packets and pollination, information on seed varieties, and techniques for saving different seed types and avoiding cross-pollination.

Mushrooms in the Garden
Take your garden or homestead to the next level by integrating fungi into your operation! Whether using them to mulch or build soil or inoculating materials to grow some dense and nutritious food, there are so many ways to enjoy these magical creatures in your home space. Join the notorious Black Trumpet farmers to learn about some simple ways to grow mushrooms on logs and at a home-scale.
Winter Classes | October – December
The year isn’t over yet! Sign up for our winter series to learn how to extend your harvest and prepare your garden for the cold winter. These classes will cover food preservation, preparing your beds for winter, and putting your garden to bed.

Kelly Hollinger
Putting the Garden to Bed for Winter
In this workshop, Kelly Hollinger of Soul and Soil Project will demonstrate some methods of tasks and tools for preparing your winter garden. She will explore easy soil building, winter cover crops, bed building, and maintenance preparation to help your spring grow to get off to a great start! She will review goal setting to best prepare for winter growing, seasonal extensional gardening, and basic tool care. Come get your hands dirty sheet mulching and discussing mulching methods for nutrient optimization.

Food Preservation
Brandon, who taught our Garden Planning workshop in January, is back again to show you the basics of food preservation. Canning, root cellaring, and drying techniques can all help keep your pantry stocked with your garden bounty all year long.

Garden the Winter Blues Away
Join Kelly to wrap up the 2022 Gardening Series with you. As a follow up of October’s “Putting the Garden to Bed for Winter” Class, Kelly will open the floor to the class’s reflections of growing this past fall. She will answer your winter garden questions, winter goals, and support you in lifting the winter blues through preparation of your plans for your 2023 garden. This event will include hot chocolate and cider for participants.
