Clem’s Organic Gardens grows certified organic vegetables just outside of Brevard, NC on about 5 acres of rich bottomland along the Davidson River. We focus mainly on storage vegetables (potatoes, beets, winter squash, carrots, turnips, and radishes) along with spring/fall lettuce and we have all the necessary equipment and infrastructure to do this efficiently and effectively.

The farm is in a very exciting stage of growth as we look to increase production by around 40%, integrate new crops, and grow our customer base over the next two years and beyond.

Our crew is what makes the farm tick. In addition to operating an efficient and rewarding work environment, we seek to facilitate an educational space in which our crew is constantly learning about all aspects of small-scale agriculture-- soils, plant biology, business models, ecology, nutrient/water cycles, etc…

Our products are mostly distributed regionally to restaurants and stores, but many of our products can be found locally through Mountain Food Products, Food Matters Market, and Hendersonville Coop.

“Working with Clem and Noah is always an easy and pleasant experience. The produce is always fresh and beautiful and communication is always clear. I'm looking forward to working with these guys for years to come.”

“We have worked with Clem's Organic Gardens for many seasons and have always been extremely happy with their service and quality of produce. Noah has been a great addition this season and has always been available for any questions we might have. We love that their growing plans and crop options allow us to have access to local products after the height of the local growing season has ended.”

“All around A plus experience!”

Our work schedule…

We offer part-time apprenticeships and work on a seasonal basis, from April through October.

Our work week is oriented around Wednesday delivery. Typically we harvest, wash, and pack on Monday and Tuesday, allowing the rest of the week to maintain and prep fields, plant, and work on other projects as needed. Weekly hours usually vary between 20-30, increasing as the season progresses with our busiest months being August and September. Between November and January there are usually 1-2 days of work/week as our sales of storage crops extend into winter.

Compensation offered...

While we've decided not to title this position "apprentice", there is a strong emphasis on learning and skill development for all of our employees. We hope that anyone working at our farm can leave equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a farm management position.

Farm Crew: 3-5 people, 20-30 hrs/week

Our location...

Brevard, NC is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains, rivers, and streams in the entire United States. The Balsam Mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Davidson River, to name a few are all minutes from the farm and offer endless opportunities for exploration, adventure, and nature connection.

Not to mention, Brevard is a cute town with a bustling local food scene. This corner of Western North Carolina is truly a special place to live and work.

What we’re looking for…

We hope all of our crew will be dedicated to sustainable food systems and have a high level of interest in agriculture. Ideal candidates will be those who seek to create their livelihood through farming and are seeking opportunities to learn how to do so. On our farm we are dedicated to soil health, regenerative practices, growing delicious organic food for the community and the hard, efficient work that makes it all possible. Anyone interested in working at our farm must share these values.

About working for [Clem’s Organic Gardens]...

“Wonderful folks here doing a great job farming organic local veggies year after year. The owner Clem is an easy going character and a low key genius who creates his own tractor implements among other niche pieces of equipment around the farm. Brook is an outstanding long term employee who’s generous farming knowledge is widely appreciated. Our farm manager Noah is very organized, hard working, and has an established and growing network of agricultural professionals.”

“Clem's Organic Gardens is a supportive work environment with very knowledgeable management. I have learned so much working with Clem and Noah. Both have a wealth of experience of organic farming and farm equipment maintenance and are constantly experimenting and innovating their techniques. The work is hard but the influence of others around you really pushes you to do your best work as quickly as possible while maintaining a really enjoyable experience. I feel very lucky to be included as part of the team.”

- Brook Reise, current employee

“Working at Clem’s Organic Gardens has been a great experience. The people there are so down to earth and care about each other. There are so many learning opportunities, lots of reasons to be creative, and many situations that call for critical thinking. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a medium size farm that produces mainly root vegetables!”

- Ivy Blanton, current employee
