I purchased the property in year 2000 and began gardening there in 2008. The property has two houses, a small cottage and a duplex. I operate the business from 1/2 of the duplex. This is a large urban garden with 6000 row feet of vegetable production and about 50 berry bushes. It is a designated a market garden according to the town of Black Mountain. It is located two blocks from Lake Tomahawk and about a mile from downtown Black Mountain. There is a passive solar greenhouse, a rainwater collection system, a small pond, a cob oven and chickens in a semi-free-range yard.

I market at the Black Mountain Tailgate market on Saturdays 9AM - 12PM, May through mid November. I also have a produce stand at the garden on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I use as many sustainable technologies as I can and still be feasible in the business. I save seeds, collect rainwater, make compost year around. I collect spent hops from a local brewery to use as a mulch. Most of the work is done by hand I use very little tilling. I teach gardening classes with an emphasis on fall and winter gardening. I'm currently working with the Black Mountain Academy, a residential school serving young man on the spectrum for autism. They come and work with me and help with many tasks while learning about growing food.

About working for Becki’s Bounty...

“It was truly inspiring to work with Becky. I have worked with other farmers and gardeners but Becky has a passion for what she does that blows me away. I went to work for her and usually left feeling cleansed in the heart and mind from working in the soil with her. Not only has she transformed her garden space into something beautiful but she also has so much enthusiasm for sharing her passion and knowledge to others. She was also always coming up with innovative ways to make use of recycled/reused materials in her garden.

- Simone, former employee

“Becky is a very well versed educator when it comes to permaculture. I had an excellent experience as her tenant and employee. My living space was clean and my privacy was respected. I was very comfortable and satisfied with my experience.”

- Stefanie, former employee

We are open for tours to the public by appointment, Monday thru Friday.

Our agritourism includes workshops and worktrade opportunities. Learn about upcoming events on our facebook page.
