We are in our 19th year of commercial production and transiting towards a bled of production and agri-tourism. We are located in a VERY REMOTE area with about twenty minutes from the town of Hot Springs and an hour drive to either Asheville or Waynesvile. We have 5 greenhouses in production, 1 acre of field crops in production, 5 acres of rotational pasture for the dairy cows, a 1 acre pasture for pigs. We will be offering accommodations for farm-stays on the farm in a barn apartment and at a camper site. This will be our first year transitioning from being a production oriented farm into agri-tourism. We use organic farming practices, in that we follow the NOP requirements, but we are not certified Organic.

  • About purchasing from Mountain Harvest Organic...

“I have been a member of this CSA since its inception. I can no longer remember how long ago that was. The products I buy are always fresh and delicious. There is a wide variety of products to choose from and since I am a neighbor, I have first hand knowledge of how Carl and Julie grow what they grown do how they care for their animals.”

    - Maxine, CSA member

“I have been a CSA member of this farm for a number of years. Carl and Julie are extremely conscientious in providing their customers with the best possible produce. I look forward to my weekly order and am always delighted with it. They have introduced me to some new varieties of vegetables which I would not have known. I highly recommend them!”

    Our work schedule…

Our start and end dates are flexible, based on the needs of the apprentices. Our normal work day is currently Monday through Friday, beginning at 7:30 AM and ending around 5:30 PM. You will have 1 - 1/2 hour lunch break. We typically work between 45 and 50 hours per week. We also realize that there is a tremendous amount to learn about farming and being self-sufficient and that we can all learn together. We are looking for individuals who are serious about learning how to farm, and in return we take seriously our roles as educators. Our apprenticeship is all about you learning what is required to run your own farm and to be self-sufficient. In addition, we are transitioning from being a strictly production oriented farm into agri-tourism, so you must be people oriented and pleasant to guests who are staying on the farm.

    Compensation offered...

We offer a $525/month stipend. Housing is provided in a travel trailer with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. All utilities are included. Farm fresh produce, milk and meat will be provided for your meals.

Our farm is a member in the CRAFT network.

    Our location...

Mountain Harvest Organics is very remote with an hour drive to either Waynesville or Asheville. We are located just 20 minutes from the town of hot springs, are surrounded by national forest with plenty of hiking trails and opportunities for rafting on our beautiful rivers.

To inquire about employment opportunities, please contact Carl Evans (farm owner/operator) by email or visit our website for further information.

    What we’re looking for...

Our dream apprentice would be a creative one who is willing to work 40 - 50 hours per week on the farm, have a sincere interest in farming, enjoy working outdoors. and be willing to share ideas. We are looking for an applicant in good physical condition who is accustomed to working outside and doing hard physical work. Some gardening, or other work experience (carpentry, etc.), is helpful but not necessary. About half your time will be spent working independently so we hope to find a person who is self-motivated. We also prefer individuals with good communication skills, and who are personable and enjoy talking with others.

This farm has reported that they are no longer hiring for the 2017 growing season. Please check back winter 2017 for next years' opportunities.
