Apprentice Link connects people who are serious about learning the sustainable farming trade with farmers who are willing to teach them in an apprenticeship setting. Depending on the farm, different compensation (from hourly wages to room and board and education) may be offered in exchange for labor. This listing helps potential applicants find farms that are compatible with their farm training needs, which we hope will lead to successful apprenticeship opportunities. Our programs’ emphasis is specifically in Western NC, with a focus on farms that participate in the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) program.

To be included in these listings, Organic Growers’ School has vetted each farm to determine of the following criteria has been met:

  • Farms are actively engaged in the local community.
  • Farms are using organic and/or sustainable production methods. Organic Certification and other certifications are not required, but we do ask that farms and farmers are “in-the-know” and conscientiously practicing organic standards.
  • Farms are dedicated to training new farmers by providing education as a pinnacle element of their apprenticeship program.

We have incorporated a review element into our database that works to take previous apprentice experience into account. All reviews written were reported by apprentice or employee “references” that are provided by each farm through the application process. We believe this element of our database furthers community accountability and will help provide applicants with resources to help them make an informed decision when accepting farm positions.

The Organic Growers’ School is dedicated to helping train the next generation of farmers by connecting them with truly educational apprentice experiences, helping farmers become mentors, and providing needed resources for labor management.
