If you’ve been thinking about trying your hand at growing some vegetables and are looking for a little guidance and encouragement, then go on over to the Beaverdam Community Garden at the YMCA this Saturday morning, 10am to noon. They are offering an introduction to vegetable gardening, including basic patterns and principles of organic growing. They will cover soil and how to grow a healthy soil food web, the basics of plant requirements, site selection, garden design and layout, and more. The workshop will include a tasting tour and a hands-on project working in the garden.

There is no charge for the workshop, but any small donation helps further develop their educational programming for after-school and summer camp kids. And bring your children! Kids are welcome to join in the gardening workshop and childcare staff will also be available. You can register by emailing Justin at jholt@ymcawnc.org.

The garden is located at the YMCA Youth Service Center, 201 Beaverdam Rd. Come up the stairs from the parking lot and turn right, you’ll see the garden ahead.
